Then Lillian Vernon came along and Mom would get me gifts with my name on them. Sam's Club - look for prices ending in 1 cent .  example $12.01 

Costco  - look for prices ending in .97 cents .  example $12.97

Here is the secret :  These prices indicate that the item has been marked down !  The clubs don't advertise their markdowns because they don't want you to wait for it to be clearanced.  So this is their way of discounting the original price .
